Yes, you can easily use 3 hardners for some missions. But it's easier to just set targets. When I do a mission, I try to reach 80% resistance in the primary damage types. This is ofcourse harder on angles than sansha, but it's a good rule of thumb...

I used to use a Maller for lvl 3's, but then that was before BC's were in the game . I think you should try with a Rupture, will probably be a bit hard but more fun.

Well, every race has a short range and long range variant. So just switch rails with artillery or beam lasers, and you have the same role. Same pretty much goes for blaster, AC's and pulse lasers, except that lasers in general are mid range weapons.
